Once again it’s that time of year when the mundane debate about whether or not “Die Hard” is a Christmas movie.
I say, who cares? “Rocky IV” is where it’s at if you want a REAL action-packed Christmas movie.
If your childhood Christmases were anything like mine, watching two men beat each other up was a frequent occurrence, so nothing puts me in the Christmas spirit quite like “Rocky IV”.
And whether or not “Rocky IV” is a Christmas film isn’t even up for debate. The climactic fight between Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago takes place on December 25th. For the unenlightened, that is Christmas Day.
Since said fight takes place in Russia, you have snow galore; Apollo Creed dies for Rocky Balboa’s sins; there’s an absolute banger of a soundtrack; Rocky grows a festive beard; and, to top it all off, capitalism beats communism once and for all.
If all that doesn’t spell Christmas classic, I don’t know what does.
Sidenote: “Rocky IV” is also an appropriate movie for Boxing Day.
